In this program the history and art of hula are told and interspersed with Merrie Monarch performances including Miss Aloha Hula, kahiko, and ʻauana.

First moʻolelo are told by the narrators and demonstrated through kahiko performances. Pamela Kuʻuleialoha Tripp of Hula Hālau ʻO Kahikilaulani under the direction of Kumu Ray Fonseca performs hula for sisters Pele and Hiʻiaka; the story of Laka is told in hula kahiko performed by Nani Parilla of Nā Pualei O Likolehua under the direction of Kumu Leinaʻala Kalama Heine; and after the narrator tells how Laʻamaikahiki brings the pahu to Hawaiʻi from Tahiti. Hālau 'O Kahikilaulani under the direction of Kumu Ray Fonseca performs with four pahu featured. Part of the legend of kamapuaʻa and Pele is told in hula kahiko by Johnny Lum Ho Dance Studio under the direction of Kumu Johnny Lum Ho, kane and wahine division. Next Nā Wai ʻEhā ʻO Puna under the direction of Kumu Thaddius Wilson [Thaddeus Wilson] also performs hula kahiko.

With post-Christian contact, hula movements change, displayed in hula ʻauana as performed by ʻIlima Hula Studios under the direction of Kumu Luka Kaleiki. The revival of hula by King David Kalākaua is expressed hula kahiko by Hālau 'O Nā Maoli Pua under the direction of Kumu Alicia Smith and Kumu Mae Loebenstein and Keolalaulani Hālau ʻOlapa O Laka under the direction of Kumu Aloha Dalire, hula ʻauana performance by Hālau Mōhala ʻIlima under the direction of Kumu Māpuana de Silva, lastly the first tape concludes with a hula kahiko performance by Hauʻoli Hula Hālau under the direction of Kumu Leilani Mendez.

Tape two continues with award-winning hula kahiko and hula ʻauana are performed by: Hula Hālau ʻO Leinaʻala under the direction of Lovey Leinaʻala Apana [wahine ʻauana], Johnny Lum Ho Dance Studio under the direction of Johnny Lum Ho [kahiko kane and ʻauana wahine], Hālau 'O Na Maoli Pua under the direction of Alicia Smith and Mae Loebenstein [ʻauana wahine], Na Wai ʻEhā O Puna under the direction of Thaddius Wilson [Thaddeus Wilson] [ʻauana kane], Kahiko Halapai Hula Alapai under the direction of Keliihonipua [wahine], and Hui Hoʻoulu Aloha under the direction of Manuailehua, Keahilani, Kalanikau, Kauaiwiulaokalani [kane kahiko]. Also includes Miss Aloha Hula 1981 Brenda Alidon of Johnny Lum Ho Studio performing hula ʻauana.
